It seems that those government standards have been made more lenient, and with the bar set lower, more people can reach it. The current standards only require a few minutes of exercise here and there. Geez. Doesn’t sound like much. Looks like I’m exercising enough nowadays too.

The previous guidelines recommended that people get in 30 minutes straight of exercise, 5 days a week. Uh oh. Now I’m in trouble.

So baby boomers aren’t really healthier after all. They’re just doing the same things as before, and yet now the government’s saying, Great work, and, Healthy lifestyle you’ve got there.

I mean, really. A few minutes here and there? Who really honestly genuinely believes that that’s all the exercise a person needs to live a healthy life?

It seems that zoos are being asked to stop keeping elephants in their facilities because some studies came out which conclude that the poor elephants suffer from serious health problems in zoos, and have much shorter lifespans, as compared to elephants in the wild.

How much shorter are their lifespans? Try less than half. Good grief. Terrible. That’s compared to elephants living in Africa and Asia, wild animals who actually have predators to worry about.

Interesting. It says that obesity might actually have a role to play here, because zoo elephants get to eat a lot, but get too little exercise. And then there’s also stress as a factor, since these elephants sometimes get transferred between zoos, and also suffer as they’re separated from their mothers.

I wonder if anything will change though, unless rules and mandatory action is taken. After all, zoos are still businesses.
